The OSW unit, designed and patented by Castellini, is transforming the shipbuilding industry by pushing the boundaries of deck and hull design. Utilising advanced welding technologies such as Hybrid Laser Arc Welding (HLAW), Autogenous Laser Welding (ALW), Cold Wire Laser Welding (CWLW), and Submerged Arc Welding (SAW), you can select the optimal welding solution tailored to your specific needs.

Castellini’s innovative approach combines a high-performance Laser Hybrid setup with a cutting-edge plate handling concept, enabling seamless welding of plates in all directions, regardless of thickness or material variations. In naval applications, the welding of thick plates (greater than 15 mm) is essential for structural integrity and performance. Traditional welding methods often fall short, requiring time-consuming processes to fill gaps and resulting in excessive material waste and complications. Additionally, the high thermal inputs from conventional welding techniques can cause warping and defects, negatively impacting subsequent assembly processes.

To address these challenges, Castellini introduces a Hybrid Laser-Arc Welding (HLAW) technique specifically designed for naval applications. This patented solution allows for the welding of two plates, each 20 mm thick, of naval steel in a single pass, achieving a sound butt weld (I-shape, no chamfer). The flexibility to weld plates of varying thicknesses along the entire weld path provides significant advantages for deck design, empowering shipyards to envision and create more efficient, lightweight, and high-performing vessels.
