A 100% Customised Storage Transformation in Northern Spain

In the heavy metal and distribution industries, the warehouse is often the silent killer of productivity. When you are dealing with 12-meter long-loads, delicate aluminium extrusions, and an endless sea of “remnants” and offcuts, standard shelving simply doesn’t cut it.

Recently, a major structural steel company in Northern Spain reached out to Upmoviom with a challenge: they needed to organise their entire storage ecosystem. They didn’t just need racks; they needed a strategy.

The Challenge: Diverse Materials and “The Remnant Problem

The client’s inventory was a complex puzzle:

  • Varying Lengths: Standard 6m loads alongside massive 12m structural components.
  • Material Sensitivity: Aluminium and stainless steel require protection from surface damage and cross-contamination.
  • The “Offcut” Nightmare: A massive volume of cuts, remnants, and spare tubes that were eating up floor space and becoming impossible to trace.

The Solution: A Hybrid, High-Density Ecosystem

After a “conscious study” of their premises, our engineering team designed a turnkey solution that blended manual access with motorised power.

1. The LM Storage System: Precision for 6m Loads

We installed our flagship Model LM storage racks for the 6m materials. However, these weren’t “off-the-shelf” units. Every single location was meticulously adapted:

  • Bespoke Interiors: Some locations feature internal separators for dual references, while others utilise custom internal containers.
  • Surface Protection: Every contact point was specially treated and protected to ensure that aluminium and stainless steel remain pristine and free from carbon steel contamination.

2. Cantilever Integration: The 12m Powerhouse

To handle the heavy structural pieces, we integrated a mix of manual and motorised cantilever racks. This allows the client to maximise vertical space while maintaining the ability to extract 12m long materials frontally (Frontal Extraction) with speed and safety.

3. Solving the “Small Piece” Puzzle

The true victory in this project was the organisation of remnants. By creating specific zones for cuts and spare tubes, we transformed a disorganised heap into a searchable, traceable inventory. No more “lost” material; no more wasted time searching for a specific offcut.

The Results: Time, Space, and Traceability

The impact on the client’s daily operations was immediate. By moving to an Upmoviom customised system, they achieved:

  • Outstanding Space Savings: By going vertical and high-density, we freed up valuable floor space for production.
  • Faster Handling: Motorised components mean materials move from storage to the cutting line in a fraction of the time.
  • Zero Damage: Specialised protection for sensitive metals has virtually eliminated material waste due to scratches or dents.

Our main task is to understand the needs of the customers and work on the projects with them, creating the appropriate storage facilities needed. — The Upmoviom Philosophy.

Looking Ahead: Scaling in 2026

Success breeds growth. Because this system was designed with the future in mind, we are already working with this client on an expansion project for 2026.

Whether you are a local fabricator or a “big player” in steel distribution, your warehouse should be an asset, not a bottleneck. From printing rollers to 12-meter beams, we provide the logic behind the storage.
