SUPERIOR newPrime Series Robot Coping & Drilling Machine

SUPERIOR newPrime Series Robot Coping & Drilling Machine

Why move heavy steel beams between a drill line and a coping station? The SUPERIOR newPrime Series combines the flexibility of a 6-axis robot with the power of a carbide drill spindle. In a single pass, this machine drills bolt holes, taps threads, scribes layout marks, and performs complex coping cuts, all without manual intervention.

Key Capabilities:

  • Drill & Tap: Integrated spindle handles high-speed carbide drilling (up to Ø40mm) and tapping.
  • 6-Axis Cutting: The robotic arm executes precise copes, rat holes, slots, and bevels using high-definition plasma (Hypertherm XPR300/MAXPRO200).
  • Longitudinal Cutting: Synchronised control between the robot and carriage allows for splitting beams into T-bars or cutting tapered beams.
  • Weld Prep: Automatically applies bevels and plasma marks for weld locations, reducing fit-up time.

In traditional fabrication, a beam visits three stations: the drill line for holes, the layout table for marking, and the burning table (or manual torch) for coping. The SUPERIOR newPrime Series, powered by KOTEC, collapses these three steps into one streamlined operation. By integrating a heavy-duty drill spindle with a 6-axis plasma robot, you eliminate the bottleneck of material handling and the errors of manual layout.

6-Axis Robotic Precision

At the heart of the machine is a sophisticated 6-axis robot arm equipped with a high-definition plasma torch. Unlike simple 3-axis machines, this robot can approach the beam from any angle, allowing it to:

  • Cut Complex Shapes: Effortlessly process flange thins, copes, rat holes, and moment connections.
  • 3D Beveling: Perform weld-ready bevel cuts directly on the machine, eliminating secondary grinding.
  • Split Beams: Synchronised motion control allows the robot to cut along the length of the beam, creating T-bars or tapered structural members.

High-Speed Drilling & Tapping

Don’t sacrifice hole quality for versatility. The newPrime features a dedicated drilling unit capable of using modern Tungsten Carbide Drills (Oil Hole) for rapid penetration.

  • Capacity: Drill holes from Ø10mm to Ø40mm.
  • Versatility: Capable of rigid tapping for threaded holes.

Intelligent Fabrication

  • Plasma Marking: The system uses the plasma torch to scribe part numbers and weld layout lines directly onto the steel. Your welders will know exactly where to attach stiffeners and clips without measuring.
  • Database Support: Save repetitive machining patterns to drastically reduce programming time for common connections.
